Myopic

That an eye is not able to focus the objects beyond a particular distance is referred as myopic. In hypermetropic eye, because bulbus oculi’s front-rear diameter is shorter than regular and it cannot increase lens curvature (refraction) beyond a particular limit, so it cannot focus the objects.

A total opposite situation occurs in a myopic eye. Generally, bulbus oculi’s front-rear diameter is taller than regular and lens cannot decrease curvature beyond a particular limit. Myopia is inherited but recessive visual impairment. Therefore, it may not always emerge in children of myopic mothers and fathers. However, if both mother and father are myopic, naturally it is a huge possibility that the children may become myopic. Indication of myopia reveals itself towards the age of 6.

The child can read the writings easily, but cannot read what is written on a board. He/she avoids himself/herself from games that require of seeing further, and prefers being apart from his/her friends. Myopia that starts towards the age of 6 maintains increasing throughout the period of growth, and it stops along with physiological progression. Bulbus oculi’s front-rear diameter is taller than regular. This type of myopia can be ameliorated with glasses and generally it does not cause another problem. Distinctively, in pathological myopia visual impairment proceeds, besides some disorders emerge in retina.

Type of myopia and proper improver glasses may not be detected in only one inspection. With careful and regular inspections, a final diagnosis can be established by pursuing course of disease and proper treatment is ensured. Most of the myopic hardly or blurry see the objects in the distance. For instance, highway signboards, white board from back row in classroom. They get close to television and they look by squinting their eyes. They can do near works easily such as reading, knitting, dealing with computer. It may be inherited and emerges around the age of 8-10. Typically, depending on physiological progression, myopia may proceed in varied rates until the age of twenties. Later it stops or proceeds slowly. Approximately % 40 of the population is myopic in varied degrees.
